Massage Therapy

I provide an assessment and treatment of your muscles and joints promoting proper functioning by relieving pain and discomfort that can arise from repetitive strain or injury. Massage Therapy can prevent your minor aches and pains from turning into aggravating, more serious issues later on. Massage can also be effective during different life stages such as pregnancy, stress from work and family life and when realigning your lifestyle to nurture optimal health and longevity.

  • Massage Therapy is a Regulated Health Profession and Massage Therapists (MT) or Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) have exclusive rights to these titles.
  • In Ontario, Massage Therapy is governed by College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and Regulated Health Practitioners Association (RHPA).
  • Registered Massage Therapists have completed a 2-3 year diploma program from an approved massage therapy school. Their college curriculum includes 2200 hours of training in the areas of anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, clinical massage, hydrotherapy and remedial exercise.
  • Massage therapists participate in a Quality Assurance Program through the CMTO that assists them in the maintenance of high professional standards and quality care of their clients.
  • Massage Therapy promotes circulation, pain relief, relaxation and detoxification at any life stage.
  • Massage Therapy can help you return to your activities of daily living if you have succumbed a soft tissue related injury.

What to Expect From Your Massage Treatment

1. After reviewing your Health History Form, I will suggest a treatment plan and discuss the treatment prior to commencing. You must give your consent before the treatment starts. You will be instructed on how to prepare for the treatment.

2. I leave the room while you prepare for the treatment. During the treatment, I will check in with you to ensure your comfort. You may stop or modify the treatment at any time during the treatment. Various techniques such as Swedish or Thai massage, fascial release, stretches, joint mobilization or Craniosacral techniques may be used during the treatment.

3. After the treatment, you may be instructed on Self-Care techniques to maintain and/or enhance the health of your muscles and joints and the positive effects of the treatment. Common self-care protocols include Epsom Salt baths to relieve muscle tension, hydrotherapy (cold/heat pack, sauna, steam, whirlpool, swimming), stretching/strengthening techniques, breathing techniques and relaxation techniques.
